The Cwmbwrla Connections Advent Calendar - Day One

Updated: Dec 3, 2020

Periods of lockdown and social distancing haven’t been easy for any of us this year. But for children, it’s been particularly confusing and distressing.

In Cwmbwrla, young people have had their spirits lifted by the craft packs of Donna Roberts, the entertainment of Circus Eruption and the movie magic of Superhero Patrol.

Now, though, with Christmas just a few weeks away, it’s time for us to make sure the year ends on the right note.

  • We believe every child should wake up on Christmas morning with something to look forward to

  • We believe every child should get a gift

  • With your help we’re going to make sure every child does

We’re asking for donations of toys – new toys, please – that we can distribute among our friends and neighbours. Many families in SA5 have found themselves struggling financially in 2020 through no fault of their own, and at the end of a year when we pulled together admirably as a community, we need to pull together one last time to make sure no child is disappointed on December 25th.

On December 7th, 8th and 9th, St Johns’ Day Centre in Cae Rowland Street will be open as a donation point between 10am and 3pm each day and also between 6pm and 7pm on the 7th. Toys will be handled in strict accordance with clinical guidelines and quarantined for 72 hours to eliminate any risk of COVID-19 infection. Then, on Saturday December 12th, the doors of the day centre will be open to parents seeking Christmas gifts for their children at no cost.

We’re not asking for charity and we’re not offering it. We’re asking you to be good neighbours, just like you’ve been throughout 2020. We’re asking you to donate new toys that your own daughters and sons would be happy to receive.

We’re asking you to help us write our own Toy Story this Christmas.

Please put these dates in your diary:

Monday, December 7th

Toy donations between 10am and 3pm and between 6pm and 7pm

Tuesday, December 8th

Toy donations between 10am and 3pm

Wednesday, December 9th

Toy donations between 10am and 3pm

Saturday, December 12th

Toy collections between 10am and 12pm
